About

Miss Janice Out of School Care is a child-focused, individualized learning centre serving children between the ages of 20 months through to 10 years old and a capacity of teaching 75 number of children at different times. We provide a high standard of care, education and learning opportunities via our Stay and Play, After School and Holiday Care programs. Children can explore a rich and diverse range of activities within a flexible, stimulating, and welcoming learning environment. We are an all-inclusive setting that meets the needs of most children.

Our mission is to improve the education and general life experience of children in Seychelles as part of an out of school program. We do this by working closely with young children, parents, Ministry of Education (Seychelles), policy, and decision makers, in partnership with funders/donors and researchers. Progressive thinking, learning, applied world renown best Early Childhood practices and research to guide the quality of practice and policy.

We aim to help children develop self-respect, respect of others, and respect their environment, to fulfil their full potential and achieve the outcomes of the centre. Our centre hosts a curriculum based Early Childhood and Primary experience for children of most abilities. This creates an experience with emphasis on acceptance and understanding that truly builds character for life.

School Management

We have a dedicated team of staff who provide stimulating experiences and resources, based on the children's interests and ideas. Children can explore safely and independently with the support and supervision of experienced adults.A high staff ratio is maintained within all play areas. This is at least 1:7 for 20 months to 3-year-old and 1:8 for 3.6-10-year-old. Each child is allocated a member of staff as their key person. The whole team are dedicated to the development and well-being of all children in their care.

Our Educational Philosophy

Core values underpinning our programs:

  • Believe every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfil their potential. A child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe, and happy childhood is important, and provides the foundation for children to develop their own abilities and talents as they grow up.

  • Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident, and self-assured.

  • Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving, caring and secure relationships.

  • Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. All areas of learning and development are equally important and interconnected.

  • We value parents as champions in the lives of children, our staff and other early childhood professionals, their commitment, dedication, and professionalism in working with young children and their families.
